Cyber Sports Riga in cooperation with ProBasketball created the NBA 2k21 “play-now” tournament in which participants had an exclusive opportunity to play NBA 2k on the brand new PS5 console.
Participation fee was only 5 euros, but the prize pool was 300! Players competed for money prizes, Pro Basketball gift cards and trophies.
Before the tournament we selected 10 best NBA teams from both conferences (total – 20) and after the registration was completed, we had a draw where every participant got a team. Teams were selected at random so everything would be 100% fair.
Whole tournament was in the play-off bracket. In the first rounds players had to win 2 games to qualify for the next round. If you lose in the series – the tournament is over for you. All teams from each conference played in their side of the bracket.
Without any previous experience on PS5 games were way closer and only small things decided the outcome of games. The Brooklyn Nets with their 3 headed monsters lost in the 2nd round, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers.
The big final was between Miami Heat (Jegors Jeļisejevs) and Memphis Grizzlies (Oskars Bērziņš). To be the champion players should have won 3 games and Heat swept the opponent (opposite to Heat’s results in the real NBA playoffs) and won the championship!
3rd place went to Philadelphia 76ers (Toms Hansons) – Philly didn’t give a chance to San Antonio Spurs (Roberts Gaidulis).
